My First Shibari Experience- A FLINTA beginner workshop
Rope can be many things: a line, a gesture, a question.
In My First Shibari Experience, we approach rope slowly and with curiosity, learning how simple knots and lines can become a language between bodies.
This one-day workshop is an invitation for FLINTA people (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) to discover the foundations of Japanese rope bondage in a space shaped by intersectionalfeminist values, consent, and care.
You are welcome to come alone or with a partner.
No previous experience is needed.
Throughout the day we will explore both the technical basics of tying and the relational dimension of rope: how attention, communication, and trust can unfold through touch and tension.
Shibari is often imagined as something spectacular or extreme.
Here we begin somewhere quieter: with hands learning rope, bodies listening, and connection built step by step.
During the workshop we will explore
the cultural background and ethics of Shibari
safety and body awareness
how to handle rope and tie your first knots
simple foundational ties
communication, consent, and negotiation
practicing together at a slow and attentive pace
There will be demonstrations, guided exercises, and plenty of time to practice. The focus is not performance but learning how rope can hold attention, intimacy, and play.
Who this workshop is for
FLINTA people curious about rope for the first time
individuals and couples wanting to explore intimacy through tying
anyone looking for a queer, consent-centered learning space
You can join solo or with someone.

About The Facilitator
Red Lily is a feminist and queer rope artist, educator, relational therapist, and student sexologist based in Copenhagen. Her work explores the meeting point between Shibari, intimacy, and relational dynamics, with a focus on creating spaces where people can approach rope with curiosity, care, and consent.
She began teaching more than 15 years ago and has since shared her work at rope and bondage events across Europe and internationally. Her approach combines technical foundations with attention to emotional presence, communication, and trust, inviting participants to explore rope not only as a physical practice but also as a relational language.
Alongside her work with rope, Red Lily practices as a relational therapist specializing in work with queer individuals and non-monogamous relationships. This background informs the way she facilitates workshops, bringing attention to boundaries, negotiation, power, and the many ways intimacy can take shape between people.
She is the artistic director of Copenhagen Queer Knots Festival and Rome Bondage Week, and co-organizer of Beyond the Norm. Through these projects she works to support community spaces for learning, creativity, and embodied exploration within rope culture.
